Delicious Tasting Just Like Fresh Boiled PotatoesWhy buy canned new potatoes when you can buy them fresh?I'm an invalid. I can't tell you how many times I have bought the fresh new potatoes hoping to make potato salad and then landed in bed. By the time I am back to wobbling around the kitchen the potatoes have gone bad. Try that ten times and the waste gets to you. Now if I want potato salad I open a can and make it. If I want green beans and new potatoes I open two cans. When I was diagnosed with MS on top of everything I already had, one of the first books I read told me not make anything I can buh. That's contrary to lifetime habit, but it's reality. If you have a new baby . . if you have a job and a family . . . if you believe in food storage . . . This is reality too.First, I'll do the pros:CONVENIENCE - I have to eat high potassium foods as I am low in potassium. Potatoes are high in that, but not convenient to run out to store to get them and then it's hit or miss how long they last. Canned potatoes are convenient.INGREDIENTS/CALORIES - VERY few ingredients, which is a plus, plus low in calories. You can eat a can of these for less than 200 calories.PRICE : Hard to beat as I got for about a buck a can.TASTE - Taste is fine. Easy to nuke to hit up and add whatever ingredients. Already diced and cooked, so that was nice.NOW FOR THE ONE BIG CON: MANY of the cans were dented, I mean dented as in you don't want to chance eating them. A tiny ding on a can I can overlook, a dented can, not so much.SO....except for all the dented cans, there were a few that were in good shape and I did try these, all pluses.Great ???? for soupSoups, stews, smashed potatoes and especially roasted in a pan with homemade meatloaf!!!!Would definitely buy again.Pretty good, but you should probably boil them for about 15 minutes. I find this makes them more digestible. I am not sure if they are precooked.I had never used canned potatoes before and was surprised at how fresh the flavor was, there was no tinny flavor that you can sometimes get with canned products. They tasted just like a potato you'd boil yourself. I added them to my canned beef and canned veggies for my "survival stew" and it came out very good. I can see these potatoes as part of my regular cooking and not just for emergencies.
